Decision-Making Process for School Wide Planning at Summit Elementary School

Doug Waltz outlined the process for making school-wise decisions at Summit Elementary.  A copy of this process is on file in the office.

April Family Fun Night

Theresa Malone brought to the PTO the idea for AprilR= 17;s Family Fun Night to be a “Pitch In” Spaghetti Dinner, sponsored= by the Family Resource Center, with the main dinner being paid for by their CA= PE Grant and prepared by Summit’s Cafeteria employees.  Parents will be asked to “pi= tch in” by bringing either a dessert or side dish item.  The original April 20 date for Fam= ily Fun Night was not possible and after much discussion, it was decided to cha= nge the date to Thursday, April 6, 2006.  This date was originally scheduled for the regular PTO meeting, but since the PTO Officers had been asked to make a presentation at the Dinner,= it will be held during that evening, after dinner.  This presentation will include an = update on the success of the PTO Fundraisers held and information on nominations f= or officers, since election of officers is scheduled to take place at the May = 2, 2006 PTO Meeting.  Parents and students will also be asked by the Family Resource Center to complete a form, listing two positives they have encountered at Summit this year and one wish for Summit.  Conversations among those seated together will be highly encouraged.  These comments and suggestions may be anonymous and will be reviewed by Summit Staff.  The Family Recourse Center will be send= ing home information in the upcoming weeks regarding the Spaghetti Dinner.=

Spring Carnival

Courtney Arthur, Carnival Chairperson, shared information regarding the Spring Carnival, scheduled for Friday, May 5.  Tim Fulton had contacted Courtney = to ask if additional games were needed and to advise her that all game booths shou= ld be able to allow two persons to play at the same time.  It was decided after discussion of= games that a Coin Toss game needed to be made and that barricades were needed to separate some of the booths (such as darts) to prevent traffic crossing in = that area.  A dunk tank will need t= o be rented and Dana Green will check on borrowing a popcorn machine.  Doug Waltz will check with Verna <= span class=3DSpellE>DeLuce on her availability as clown and the Cake Walk= will be held in the Large Group Instruction (LGI) room.

Food for the Carnival was discussed and Charla Lancaster and Timmi-Lynn Dobbins volunteered to= find out about donation of food items from some businesses.  Courtney Arthu= r to check with Coca-Cola regarding whether Summit is eligible to receive a free donation of soda.  Courtney will also contact those volunteers who signed up for Carnival with regards to their interests and availability.
