Graduation Workgroup
Paula McDevitt spoke to the
members about the Bloomington Graduation Workgroup that has formed and invi=
ted
members to attend the March 2, 2006 program “Educating our Students In
and For the 21st Century:
A Critical Community Conversation”, which will be held at
Carmichael Auditorium in Bloomington High School South from 7:00 pm to 8:30
pm. PTO will send a couple of
members to gather information for them, as the program is during our regula=
rly
scheduled monthly PTO meeting.
Information will appear in the local newspapers shortly, according to
Paula, and she will email information to the PTO Secretary to distribute am=
ong
our Email List and Newsletter as needed.
Treasurer’s
Report
Courtney Arthur read the Treasurer’s report, as
prepared by Melissa Fulton and emailed to the PTO Secretary. The Kroger Gift Certificate progra=
m is
doing well and there is $340.00 in checks to deposit from the fundraiser. Courtney will also be calling
Lowe’s to see about securing a date for a Coke and Hot Dog Booth
fundraiser.
501(3)(c) Status
Susan Bretsch reported that =
the
1023 paperwork for the PTO’s 501(3)(c) sta=
tus
has been sent. She also noted=
that
Summit PTO will be able to keep the same EIN (Employer Identification Numbe=
r)
that was assigned and that both the EIN and Indiana Sales Tax are correctly
listed as Summit PTO now.
Market Day
As a “Welcome to Market Day”, customers will
receive a free tote bag with any purchase at Plus, our school will earn an extra
$100.00 at this first sale if we have 100 customers order. A Market Day Flyer with more detai=
ls and
Order Form will be sent home.
Orders must be received by classroom teachers by Friday, March 10,
2006. Internet orders are also
accepted and must be in by noon on Monday, March 20, 2006.
Talent Show
Doug Waltz will contact Heather Aga=
n
to see if she is still interested in coordinating the Talent Show this
year. Discussion about moving=
the
Talent Show to the last week of school, rather than hold in mid-March
followed. Jennifer Syrek will send an email to those who indicated an in=
terest
in helping with Talent Show on the Volunteer Form (sent out in the Fall).

Graduation
No word on a date yet for the 6th Grade
Graduation. Courtney Arthur w=
ill
talk to the 6th grade teachers regarding this.
Decision-Making
Process for School Wide Planning at
Doug Waltz outlined the process for making school-wise
decisions at Summit Elementary. A
copy of this process is on file in the office.
April Family Fun
Night
Theresa Malone brought to the PTO the idea for AprilR=
17;s
Family Fun Night to be a “Pitch In” Spaghetti Dinner, sponsored=
by
the Family Resource Center, with the main dinner being paid for by their CA=
PE
Grant and prepared by Summit’s Cafeteria employees. Parents will be asked to “pi=
tch
in” by bringing either a dessert or side dish item. The original April 20 date for Fam=
ily
Fun Night was not possible and after much discussion, it was decided to cha=
nge
the date to Thursday, April 6, 2006.
This date was originally scheduled for the regular PTO meeting, but
since the PTO Officers had been asked to make a presentation at the Dinner,=
it
will be held during that evening, after dinner. This presentation will include an =
update
on the success of the PTO Fundraisers held and information on nominations f=
or
officers, since election of officers is scheduled to take place at the May =
2,
2006 PTO Meeting. Parents and
students will also be asked by the
Spring Carnival
Courtney Arthur, Carnival Chairperson, shared information
regarding the Spring Carnival, scheduled for Friday, May 5. Tim Fulton had contacted Courtney =
to ask
if additional games were needed and to advise her that all game booths shou=
ld
be able to allow two persons to play at the same time. It was decided after discussion of=
games
that a Coin Toss game needed to be made and that barricades were needed to
separate some of the booths (such as darts) to prevent traffic crossing in =
that
area. A dunk tank will need t=
o be
rented and Dana Green will check on borrowing a popcorn machine. Doug Waltz will check with Verna <=
span
class=3DSpellE>DeLuce on her availability as clown and the Cake Walk=
will
be held in the Large Group Instruction (LGI) room.
Food for the Carnival was discussed and Charla
Lancaster and Timmi-Lynn Dobbins volunteered to=
find
out about donation of food items from some businesses. Courtney Arthu=
r to
check with Coca-Cola regarding whether
